Nutmeg Cookies

These cookies are so yummy!

They would make GREAT Christmas goody gifts for neighbors and friends.
I found the original recipe in a Penzey's catalog and made my own little adaptations:).

Here is the recipe.

Cinnamon-Nutmeg Cookies

1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg

3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. Cream of Tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Sprinkling Mix:

1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
 1/2 c. sugar
6 TBS. red or green sugar

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. In two separate small bowls, combine red or green sugar with 1/2 tsp. nutmeg. Set aside. In the other bowl, mix 1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 tsp. nutmeg, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon. Set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Mix at low speed until just blended, about three minutes. Gradually mix in dry ingredients at low speed.

Roll rounded teaspoons of dough into 1 inch balls. Roll in the nutmeg sugar of your choice and place on an ungreased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until the centers of the cookies are firm to the touch. Cool and store in an airtight container.

You can also package up and give to friends and neighbors:).

I LOVE the sound of these gems!!! I am definitely making them... I am(there I confessed it)"A Nutmeg-aholic"!!! And I bet you never heard of that, WELL, I keep a nutmeg grinder at my place at the dinner table... That's right, I use it on "Just about everything"! I do offer some to others and they just turn up their noses, OK with me! Thank you for this wonderful recipe...
