You should make this...you really should!
It is the perfect treat! So moist and slightly crumbly.
The applesauce makes this cake absolutely delightful and healthy....right?
It would make a lovely Valentine's gift for friends or neighbors and is quick and simple to make.
Chocolate Applesauce Cake
1/2 c. butter, softened
2c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 eggs
*1/2 c. sour milk {buttermilk}
4 TBS. cocoa powder
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. applesauce
Cream butter, oil, and sugar. Add eggs, vanilla and milk. Beat with mixer until just blended. Mix dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Beat until blended. Add applesauce . Spoon batter into a 9"x13" greased pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Test with fork in center to see if it comes out clean. You may need a few more minutes, depending on your altitude.
Cool, and top with powdered sugar.
*If you do not have buttermilk, you can substitute 1/2 c. milk with 1 tsp. vinegar. Let sit for 5 minutes:).
Enjoy!
